Photos: Imagine These Dysfunctional Hollywood Thanksgivings

Posted Nov 25th 2009 11:59PM By: Jo Piazza

Thanksgiving is a time of turkey and stuffing, football and family drama. And at PopEater we like to maximize that drama. So we got to thinking, what if we could bring together our favorite 2009 Hollywood disasters at one dinner table? Who would sit next to who? Whatever would they talk about? PopEater creates the ultimate Thanksgiving seating chart for our boldfaced fantasy Thanksgiving, with some suggested topics of conversation to keep everyone from commenting on how dry mom's turkey is. See whom we're seating next to whom at our virtual feast:

Jon Gosselin and Chris Brown

We doubt Jon is welcome at his own 'Plus 8' Thanksgiving table. We're sure he has been jointly banned by both Kate and the TLC empire. Jon can counsel Chris on how to survive being one of the most despised dudes in the country. Chris can share with Jon how one should not deal with the women in his life if he expects to improve upon that image.

Mariah Carey Takes a Tumble on 'Leno'

Posted Nov 3rd 2009 8:05AM By: PopEater Staff

Oh, the trials and tribulations of high heels. Mariah Carey almost went face-first into Jay Leno's stage during a taping of his show on Monday night, thanks to some iffy footwork by the crooner. As Carey was making her way onto the stage, she tripped up and nearly fell forward, but somehow managed to stay upright.

NBC Isn't Out to 'Destroy Drama,' Says 'ER' Vet Anthony Edwards

Posted Oct 21st 2009 3:27PM By: Marc Schneider

Was NBC trying to kill the drama genre when they decided to plant Jay Leno's folksy talkfest at the tail-end of primetime every night? TV critics and a smattering of on-screen stars tied to the network have been critical of the decision, which has so far resulted in canceled dramas ('Southland') and sagging ratings for Leno and the shows that follow him.

But Anthony Edwards, whose serious work on 'ER' benefited from the show's perch at 10 p.m., doesn't think his former network is out to "destroy drama." It's about survival, he tells PopEater, and NBC is simply doing what they think is best for their bottom line.

"That's what a commercial network is supposed to be doing," he says, "that's their business ... they're not a public library."

Is Jay Leno Ripping Off Howard Stern?

Posted Oct 20th 2009 5:04PM By: Jo Piazza

It is never a good idea to go upsetting Howard Stern, but Jay Leno managed to get himself in the 'King of All Media's cross hairs last week. Stern ripped the NBC talk show host a new one on his morning Sirius radio show last Tuesday, accusing Jay of stealing one of his bits. Leno had invited NFL commentator Terry Bradshaw onto his show to square off against a chicken in choosing the week's football winners. Cute idea, except it was a bit Howard began doing years ago, first with a chicken and then with a monkey.

'Jay Leno' Wreaking Havoc on Local News

Posted Oct 19th 2009 9:39AM By: PopEater Staff

All across the country, NBC affiliates are cringing nightly as their once-healthy late night newscasts are experiencing huge drops in viewership. With 'The Jay Leno Show' as their new "lead-in" every night, stations in Baltimore to Kansas City and beyond are attracting fewer and fewer eyeballs to their prized newscasts, according to a report by the LA Times.

'Glee' Creator Disses NBC and Jay Leno

Posted Oct 13th 2009 3:49PM By: PopEater Staff

When the 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy found out that NBC pulled the plug on the cast's appearance on the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, he decided to take a verbal swipe at NBC... and the network's most famous comedian. "I completely understand NBC's position, and look forward to seeing a Jay Leno float," he told EW.com.

Revealed! Meredith Vieira's Naked News

Posted Oct 7th 2009 2:00PM By: PopEater Staff

With friends like Al Roker, who needs enemies...

In response to David Letterman's scandal over at CBS, NBC has revealed its own sexy past involving 'Today' show co-anchor Meredith Vieira. Jay Leno, the host of 'The Jay Leno Show', played a series of clips showing Vieira's early days in broadcasting. He ended with the most revealing -- a fully-exposed (photoshopped, of course) still of the female anchor on the 'Naked News,' leaving little to the imagination.

Letterman Finds Formula for Beating Leno: Sex, Blackmail, Jokes

Posted Oct 7th 2009 7:41AM By: PopEater Staff

David Letterman may not be having the best week in his personal life, but ratings wise, 'The Late Show' host has got to be smiling. Around 5.7 million people tuned in on Monday to hear Letterman apologize to his wife for, oh you know, sleeping with numerous staffers over the years. According to CBS, that's a 36 percent increase in viewership from the previous Monday. It's also a 19 percent jump on the 2009-2010 season-to-date average for the talk show of 4.8 million viewers.

Daily Variety has reported that Letterman's ratings bested anything that NBC had on Monday in prime time, including 'Heroes' and Jay Leno, Dave's old rival. 'The Jay Leno Show' pulled in 4.3 million viewers that night. Letterman was always in second place behind Leno when he hosted 'The Tonight Show.'

Pee-Wee Herman Channels Jonas Bros., Talks About Paul Reubens

Posted Sep 23rd 2009 8:05AM By: PopEater Staff

Pee-Wee Herman returned to the small screen on Tuesday's 'Jay Leno Show' to show off his "abstinence ring" and talk briefly about his upcoming stage show. "It's not easy" to stay pure, the real life Paul Reubens told Leno about the ring, a nod to the actor's 1991 arrest at an XXX theater.

Pee-Wee said he was excited to go "back to his roots" for the stage show, adding that familiar characters like Miss Yvonee, Jambie the Genie and Mailman Mike will all be there. The bulk of the interview focused more on Reubens and his childhood memories, but he never broke character as Pee-Wee. Watch:

Great Moments in Late Night Politics

Posted Sep 21st 2009 4:00PM By: PopEater Staff

Like him or not, it's no secret that Barack Obama is one telegenic cat. Given the amount of political soap to sell and the politicians who need to sell it, it shouldn't be a surprise that Obama has been on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' five times. But Monday night's episode is a big deal because it is the first time in 'Late Show' history that a sitting president will be a guest. Yep, President Obama will visit Dave for an hour and yuk it up about health care. Here's hoping we won't need an aspirin afterwards ...

To mark the occasion, here's a list of stand-out Political Moments in Late Night.

McFeud

David Letterman can be a prickly pear sometimes. Make that most of the time. And what pisses Dave off is when a guest for his TV show doesn't show up. But what makes him even more ornery is when the guest scheduled for his show winds up being interviewed somewhere else. Ladies and gentlemen, the runner up for POTUS (President of the United States) ... John McCain, a.k.a. The Man Who Wasn't There.

How'd Leno Fare in His First Week?

Posted Sep 21st 2009 10:51AM By: Tricia Romano

After much anticipation and speculation, Jay Leno's new show -- aptly titled 'The Jay Leno Show' -- debuted last week, and it turns out, it's almost exactly like his last show, 'The Tonight Show.' Except for the fact that it's not so hot according to lots of critics, and the end-of-week ratings were less than half of the show's premiere. Allow PopEater take a look back at how Jay did as he ventures into week number two.

Did Jay Leno 'Exploit' Kanye's Dead Mom?

Posted Sep 15th 2009 9:06PM By: Jo Piazza

Watching Kanye West on Jay Leno last night felt a little bit creepy, like when you accidentally turn on a dirty movie with your parents in the room. Kanye's four-minute interview was uncomfortable for so many squirm-worthy reasons that we here at PopEater wanted to take a minute to dissect exactly what made us feel like Kanye and Jay got one over on us. After the jump, experts break down the Kanye-Jay interview, with one saying Leno took a "cheap shot" by invoking West's late mother while another says it gave Kanye "the perfect way to look sympathetic."

Jay Leno Almost Makes Kanye West Cry

Posted Sep 15th 2009 7:16AM By: PopEater Staff

Kanye West used Jay Leno's prime-time debut Monday to offer another apology for ruining Taylor Swift's night at the MTV VMAs and says he's going to take some time off for reflection. The startling moment of the interview happened when Leno abruptly asked if his late mother would lecture him for his actions. Cue awkward silence. Watch the video after the jump!
