The Oprah Effect: Her Endorsement Goldmine
As Oprah Winfrey rides into the final countdown of her hit talk show, businesses and entrepreneurs alike will probably pull out all the stops to get Winfrey to utter their brand name on air... even if it's just once. It's no secret that anything Oprah chats about on her show goes from rags to riches in a matter of minutes. We admire her "popular girl" power to influence her audience to buy the products she endorses. It's difficult to say if any other celebrity will take her reigning ability to shill an unknown product and make it a must-have item. Let's take a look at Winfrey's Midas touch. >>

Oprah's Long Goodbye Begins With Tears
With her eyes welling with tears, Oprah Winfrey looked directly at her viewers on Friday to explain why she will be ending her show in 2011 after a quarter-century on the air. It was prayer and careful thought that helped her decide, she said. "I love this show. This show has been my life. And I know when it's time to say goodbye.""Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and feels right in my spirit."
Winfrey offered no specifics about her plans for the future, except to say that she intended to produce the best possible shows during her last 18 months on the air.

Oprah Wards Off Attacks About Revealing Charla Nash's Face

Talk show guru Oprah Winfrey defended her decision to reveal the face of chimp attack victim Charla Nash on her show last week, revealing she considered blurring the image but decided against it.
"There was great concern as to how to show the face, whether to show the face, and how to do it," Oprah shared on friend Gayle King's Sirius Radio show late last week. "And I finally thought that she has to live with it. First of all, she wanted to show it, and she has to live with it, so how dare us think ... because we even considered, 'Should we blot out the face? Should you blur the face?' And then i said no, we're not gonna do that, because it's more important for us to not have to look at her than for her to be willing to show it? That's not right."

Oprah Gets an Earful From Robin Givens Over Tyson 'Sock' Interview

Robin Givens took Oprah Winfrey to task on Friday for allowing her ex-husband Mike Tyson to joke about domestic abuse during a chat with him last month.

"At that particular moment, I truly wanted to sock her, but I just didn't do it," he told Oprah to laughter in the audience. "I have socked her before, and she socked me before, as well. It was just that kind of relationship."
The laughter and Winfrey's failure to rebuke Tyson bothered Givens, who is now a spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. She says she was "really, really hurt" by the way Winfrey handled the interview.
Fame After Death: Who's Still a Celebrity Post-Mortem?

The recent DirecTV commercial with the image of the late Chris Farley cavorting with David Spade begs the question – which living celebs have that kind of afterlife? Any post shelf-life prospects?
"No," says Amy Ferguson Wolf, director of film & TV at mediaplacement entertainment, a branding company which strategically inserts products into what you're watching. "It's fast food fame – digested and quickly forgotten. Being famous for something other than 'being famous' is essential." So who is a candidate for post-mortem stardom?
