Lindsay Lohan to Stay on at Ungaro

Posted Nov 26th 2009 3:15PM By: Chris Jancelewicz

Despite all the stripper-inspired heart-shaped pasties, bikini tops and shirtless blazers that made up Lindsay Lohan's first-ever Ungaro fashion collection, the troubled starlet is being kept on at the French fashion house.

In defiance of all her critics, Lindsay's controversial clothing collection has been hailed a commercial success. Her creations were ripped apart by fashion critics when they hit the runway in September, with Women's Wear Daily calling the collection "an embarrassment."

Lindsay Lohan's Ungaro Fashion Debut Was a 'Disaster,' Says Ungaro

"Lindsay Lohan's collaboration was a disaster." That's the blunt assesment given by Emanuel Ungaro, the founder of the couture house that hired the actress to advise them on a fashion line last month.

"I am furious but I can't do anything about it," fumed the designer during a meeting on Monday night at a film festival in Lisbon. Ungaro, who no longer has any contact with the fashion house that bears his name, said his creation is "in the process of losing its soul," as a result of the Lohan hiring.

The 'Mean Girls' star, 23, worked alongside designer Estrella Archs as a style consultant and debuted her first collection during Paris Fashion Week last month. The work was almost universally panned as an "embarrassment" by the international fashion press.

Lindsay Lohan the Latest Fashion Victim

Lindsay Lohan has made her fashion "debut", and it's not pretty.

Blogs around the world are roasting the actress for the latest Ungaro collection, which presented halfway through Paris' prestigous Fashion Week. Created mostly by veteran Barcelona-born designer Estrella Archs, the United States' very own LiLo was invited to add input into the collection.

Originally, some people thought it was a joke (or just a thinly-veiled marketing masterpiece), but as rumours turned into hard fact, appointed head designer Esteban Cortazar abruptly quit Ungaro.

From what we saw on the runway, Cortazar was an absolute genius to wash his hands of this collection and of Ungaro. Packed with bright fuschia, orange, and pink, the runway presentation was like walking past a club lineup. The necklines were shamelessly low, and the skirts were short, almost useless, since sometimes a butt cheek errantly peeked out.

Lindsay Lohan Now Must Answer To Fashion's Mean Girls

What Lindsay Lohan's Paris fashion debut with the design house Ungaro lacked in undergarments, fashion critics are making up for with scathing reviews for the starlet's design abilities. A "hot mess" declared the Los Angeles Times, "hearts but no soul," wrote Suzy Menkes in the New York Times, referring to the heart-shaped pasties Lohan used to cover up the model's nipples. Fashion bible Women's Wear Daily called the collection "an embarrassment," and said it "displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver."

What caused fashion's Mean Girls to unleash their hiss on Linds? From our vantage on the other side of the Atlantic and lacking a critical fashion eye, it was hard for us to see exactly what made the show such a disaster. So we asked our team of fashion experts to weigh in on what exactly went wrong for Lohan in Paris.
