Christina Applegate's Cancer Confessions
PEOPLE
(Sept. 30) - Christina Applegate spoke candidly with Oprah Winfrey about her battle with breast cancer and admitted she had a delayed reaction to the entire diagnosis. The actress, who has been cancer free since her double mastectomy in August, 'lost it' when she met her surgeon, PEOPLE reports.
The choice to remove both breasts was a tough decision for Applegate, especially because cancer had only been found in one breast. "I was just gonna let them go," says Applegate. In an August interview with PEOPLE, Applegate explains further, "I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one."

When the doctor revealed her test results came back positive for breast cancer, Applegate admits the memory still jolts her. "And I just – like right now I'm sitting here shaking remembering that moment. As you guys know, you don't think it's gonna happen to me."
When asked if she cried, "You know, I – at first I didn't. And then when I met with my doctor and I told him that was my decision and he brought the surgeon in and it was like the flood gates just opened up and I – I lost it."
Applegate's episode will air on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' today.
