(Jan. 12) - Notoriously busy actor Steven Gilborn, who appeared in scores of movies and television shows, most notably as Ellen DeGeneres's father on her mid-1990's sitcom, lost his battle with cancer on Jan. 2, his family told the New York Times. He was 72.

Gilborn worked continuously in television for the past 20 years, as evident by his long list of credits on IMDB. Besides 'Ellen,' he had recurring roles on 'Picket Fences,' 'The Practice,' and 'The Wonder Years,' in which he played Kevin Arnold's algebra teacher.
His numerous one-episode appearances play like a lesson in modern TV history, with brief roles on 'NewsRadio,' 'Coach,' 'Malcolm in the Middle,' 'The Golden Girls,' 'L.A. Law,' and recently, 'Without a Trace.'
His film credits include 'The Brady Bunch Movie' and 'Private Parts.' He began his acting career on the stage in the early 1970's, and went on to star in productions of 'Much Ado About Nothing,' 'Awake and Sing!' and others.
Gilborn is survived by his wife, Karen Halverson, and two daughters.

I LIKE READING AND POSTING COMMENTS. SOME ARE HUMAN, SOME ARE FUNNY, SOME ARE SILLY AND SOME ARE AT TIMES OUTRIGHT MEAN. READING AND WRITING POST COMMMENTS, AFFORDS ME THE CHANCE TO HAVING AN UMPTEEN AMOUNT OF TEACHERS AT MY KEYBOARD. I KNOW WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO POST A COMMENT. BUT I DOUBT WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO THROW STONES AT OTHERS WHILE LIVING IN GLASS HOUSES OURSELVES...WITHOUT BEING A PRUDE, I BELIEVE IN THE OLD AXIOM, IF WE CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT ANOTHER, WE SHOULDN'T SAY ANYTHING.

I had the good fortune to work with steve before he did "Ellen" and he was a talented and most giving actor. He did a small staged reading and engaged in the process, working on the script, looking out for the piece ,not himself. He was extraordinarily supportive of his cast, unknown actors and amateurs. I had the pleasure to see him in December at a show I was in, and well, remembered the project and actually was considering working with the theatre company again. My condolences to his family. Steve will be missed.

lesbians and gay men are born that way. There is no re-writing their brains, i don't care what people say.Laura - I don't know/care where you got this idea, but I can't agree. They're NOT born this way - it's a choice dictated by societal acceptance. Too many have turned their lives around (back to heterosexuality - the acceptable norm), to ever make me believe otherwise. They're presently infiltrating our society with their demands and money flowing into furthering their causes. And have you ever noticed? The most slanted are always the most vocal and attention-seeking? No, the squeaky wheel doesn't always get the oil. Sometimes they get the whole damned CAN thrown at them, as they should. I'd personally love to see Ellen forced into dressing like a woman instead of a bulldyke. She's an attractive woman and her beauty would be greatly enhanced without all the masculine trappings. She's so adamantly against doing that though, that I'll never live to see it. They even...
